Friends of Athletics are alumnae, past and present parents, former athletes, and corporations who support Sweet Briar athletes on and off the playing field.

Since its inception in 2001, Friends members have donated and raised funds to supplement the varsity sports operating budget.

Each May, Friends is the major financial supporter for the annual Varsity Sports Awards Banquet.

In fall 2006, Friends supported the induction of the charter class of the Sweet Briar College Athletics Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame honors special achievement by alumnae and others who have been associated with athletics at the College.

The mission of Friends of Athletics is to sustain and promote the College's committment to sports by funding enhancements to intercollegiate athletics, including:

• team travel
• athletic recruiting
• the annual Varsity Sports Awards Banquet
• communication to build enthusiasm and increase attendance at students' games
