Secondary Teacher Licensure
The B.A. or B.S. major in Biology which must include these specific courses
BIOL 205 (3) - Genetics
BIOL 310 (4) - Evolution
BIOL 324 (4) - Ecology
At least one course in plant biology (BIOL 104, 214 OR 301)
At least two courses in zoology, and/or anatomy and physiology (any two of BIOL 216, 230, 247, 326)
A minimum of 16 credit hours in non-biology science courses and 3 semester hours in mathematics or statistics.
All of the following chemistry courses
CHEM 131, 141, 231 and 232
Choose 1 of the following mathematics or statistics courses
MATH 106 (3) - Statistical Reasoning
MATH 123 (4) - Calculus I
MATH 124 (4) - Calculus II
MATH 205 (3) - Applied Statistics
PSYC 219 (4) - Statistics for Behavioral Sciences
Choose 1 of the following physics courses:
PHYS 105 - Physics for Liberal Arts I
PHYS 121 - Principles of Physics I
PHYS 171 - General Physics I
Choose 1 of the following earth science courses
ENVR 131 (3) - Physical Geography: Landscapes
PHYS 113 (3) - Astronomy for the Liberal Arts
Students interested in science education should discuss these program requirements with advisors from both the Biology and Education Departments. Students who would like to become endorsed in a second area of science (Chemistry or Physics) need to complete an additional 18 credit hours of study in the second field which must include any specific requirements in that field.
