Field Trips

To help students understand the wide variety of creative processes and the ways that artists build a career, BLUR faculty will lead field trips to the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, one of the premier artist colonies in the world.

The VCCA is located on the Sweet Briar campus, and is home to artists from all over the country (and the world) who have come to the Blue Ridge to work in seclusion on their art.  The VCCA has generously agreed to partner with BLUR, making it possible for our students to learn from award-winning artists through presentations on their work-in-progress, and master classes.

Last year, students were treated to a song-writing workshop by musician Paul Reisler, and heard presentations by artists from several different countries.
