Inclement Weather Procedure

Introduction
The purpose of the Inclement Weather Procedure is intended to define the procedures for the delayed opening and/or closing of the College.

Principal Point Persons

  • Chief of Police, Department of Campus Safety 
  • Vice President for Finance and Administration
  • Campus Safety Officers
  • Driector of Media, Marketing and Communications
  • Director of Physical Plant
  • Associate Director of Physical Plant


Action Plan

  • On inclement weather days, Chief of Police or Department of Campus Safety designee will contact the Grounds Department.
  • The Chief of Police or Department of Campus Safety designee will contact the Vice President for Finance and Administration at home no later than 5:30 a.m. to provide a recommendation regarding a possible delay or closing of the College. 
  • If a decision is made to close (or for a delayed opening) the Vice President for Finance and Administration will contact the Associate Director of Physical Plant and the representative of Media, Marketing and Communications by no later than 5:45 a.m. 
  • The Associate Director of Physical Plant will be responsible for updating the Information Hotline; the Department of Campus Safety will serve as back up for updating the Information Hotline.
  • The Department of Campus Safety will be responsible for sending an e2Campus alert; an Officer is designated by the Director of Campus Safety as a back-up if the primary staff member is not available. 
  • Media, Marketing and Communications will contact local media.
  • Media, Marketing and Communications will update the web page and distribute a campus-wide e-mail.
  • In the event of a delay: nonessential employees who arrive at work within (2) hours of their normal starting time will be paid for a full day’s work; faculty and students should report to their regular scheduled 10:30 class.
  • If no call is received by the Associate Director of Physical Plant or the representative of Media, Marketing and Communications by 6:00 a.m., it can be assumed that the College will operate normally.
  • If the College closes, or alters its schedule, the Vice President for Finance and Administration will contact the President or Vice President and Chief of Staff, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty, and the Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Co-Curricular Life prior to decision.
