Career Services

  1. What resources are available at the Career Services Center?
    There are many resources available! From major/career exploration to internships, interviewing and resume tips and so much more!  Visit us on the 2nd floor of Prothro!  Office hours are from 8:30 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday. Appointments taken from 9:30 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. For more information see: Career Services.
  2. How do I schedule an appointment?
    Please call extension (434) 381-6580 to schedule an appointment.
  3. Does the Career Services Center offer any Special programs or Career Fairs?
    Yes, a variety of programs and career fairs are offered. See our Calendar of Events.
  4. Do you have resources that I can use that will help me decide on a major or a career?
    There are many resources available - visit the Career Services Center and make an appointment or see our WebLink Library.
  5. Can I check out a book from the office?
    Sure! Make sure to fill out the appropriate paperwork and you may check out a book for up to two weeks.
  6. What is an academic internship?

  7. What Majors specifically require an Academic Internship?
    Arts Management Certificate, Education (required for licensure), Environmental Science (all concentrations), Business Management, Economics (Business concentration), Psychology, and Engineering
  8. Can I do an internship without receiving credit?
    Yes

  11. Is there a GPA requirement for doing an academic internship?
    Yes, a 2.0 cumulative GPA and a 2.0 GPA in the subject is required to do an academic internship.
  12. How do I research Graduate School programs?

  15. What services does the Career Services Center offer future teachers?
    The Career Services Center has Praxis testing materials and study guides. Also note that each February, Career Services holds an Education Career Fair.
  16. How does Career Services Center assist students in finding full time employment?
    We will assist current students and alumnae. Call ext. 6151 to schedule an appointment.
  17. May I contact an Alumna for career help?
    Yes, it is appropriate to contact alumnae for advice or to network. However, it is NOT appropriate to solicit them for jobs or internships. You must sign a contract stating that you understand how and when it is appropriate to contact alumnae.
