Professor Yousef’s research interests lie in the realm of organic chemistry. Specifically, he is interested in the synthesis and photochemistry of furanones, natural product derivatives that have potential medicinal applications. He is also involved in the Sweet Briar College Honors Program and has taught in the SCHEV summer educational program for grade 3-8 teachers of local Virginia public schools.

Yen Hoang Le Nguyen
Assistant Professor of Chemistry

Professor Yen Nguyen has research experiences in electron transfer processes through molecular wires and enzymes.  Her past research involved the synthesis of small molecules, laser spectroscopy and protein expression and purification. Prior to joining Sweet Briar, she spent two years at the University of Sydney doing research in X-ray crystallography. Her current research focus involves computational studies and synthesis of novel amphiphiles for the purpose of membrane protein crystallography. In short, her work is fundamentally chemsitry involving biological systems using physical techniques.
