James L. Alouf

Professor of Education

Ph.D., University of Virginia

Professor Alouf taught secondary social studies for ten years. His research interests include teacher education, cognitive and moral development, global and multicultural education and educational assessment. He teaches courses in educational psychology, foundations of education, human diversity and secondary education. Professor Alouf advises students interested in pursuing secondary licensure and supervises student teaching at the high school level.

Kay Brimijoin

Associate Professor of Education

Ph.D., University of Virginia

Professor Brimijoin teaches literacy development, content area reading, curriculum and instruction, models of instruction and assessment, and supervises elementary student teachers. She taught in the elementary classroom for more than twelve years and served as a school district administrator for ten years. Her research interests include differentiated curriculum and instruction, gifted education, professional development models, teacher mentoring, and literacy development.

Holly Gould

Assistant Professor of Education

Professor Gould recently completed her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology at the University of Virginia. Her professional experience includes eight years of teaching in Alaska. Her primary research interests include high potential, culturally diverse learners; differentiated instruction for all learners; gifted education; and the professional development of novice teachers. She teaches courses in human development, methods of teaching, and curriculum. She advises students interested in earning a teaching license and she supervises student teachers at the elementary and secondary levels.

Dena Lowman

As Director of the Campus School, Mrs. Lowman's specialty lies in Early Childhood Education. Her background includes special education, GED certification, and kindergarten and third grade education.

Margaret Ann White

Nursery School Teacher (Campus School)
Instructor in Education

B.S., Radford University
M.Ed., Lynchburg College

Ms. White has been teaching for 25 years, primarily with preschool-age students. Working with preschool-age students continues to be one of her favorite pasttimes. In addition, she enjoys horseback riding, boating, reading and playing with her new grandson, Riley. She finds it rewarding to watch college students get excited about becoming teachers.
