Ways to Give to Sweet BriarOutright GiftsThere are many ways to support Sweet Briar. Giving to the College can be as simple as writing a check, charging your gift to your credit card, or making a gift in the form of securities, personal property, real estate, or a matching gift. You may also choose to make Sweet Briar a beneficiary in your will or estate. You may also wish to join one of our Friends of... groups. CashThe easiest way to give, cash gifts have an immediate impact on Sweet Briar and offer you an income tax charitable deduction. When making a gift by check, be sure that you make it payable to Sweet Briar College. If you have a designation, please specify this in the memo section, or include a brief note with your check specifying how you wish to designate your gift. Then mail to:

Matching GiftsMany companies support Sweet Briar by matching or multiplying their employee’s gifts to the College. This benefit is often extended to employee spouses, retirees, and board members as well. Before you make a gift, check with your company’s personnel office, or click here to determine if your employer participates. SecuritiesGifts of appreciated securities can provide you with an income tax charitable deduction and a capital gains tax savings. There are several ways to make a gift of securities to Sweet Briar: electronic transfer, mailing certificates, or hand-delivery. Before making your gift, notify the Development Office of your intent by calling 1-888-846-5722, or send a letter stating your name, address, and the purpose for which the gift is being made.
Gifts-in-KindGifts-in-Kind are tangible gifts of personal property, such as artwork, books, livestock, historical collections, and scientific equipment. Assets related to the educational mission of the College can be deducted for their full fair market value. Real EstateWhen you make a gift of your home or real property to Sweet Briar, you receive an income tax charitable deduction, avoid capital gains tax on the appreciation, and eliminate some costs in transferring the property. In addition, you can make a gift of your home to the College and continue to live in it throughout your lifetime. In some cases, gifts of real estate can provide income to you. Planned GivingPlanned Giving is an effective and mutually beneficial way of giving to Sweet Briar. By making a planned gift, you assist Sweet Briar in its mission of providing a bold and distinctive liberal arts education for women while enjoying the benefits of capital gains tax savings, increased income, and income tax savings.
