Application: Semester and Year-Long Programs in Paris and Nice

Applications are accepted from sophomores who will be juniors in France, or first-semester juniors, both men and women, in good standing at any accredited four-year American or Canadian college or university.

Candidates for admission are expected to have at least two years of pre-college French and two full years of college French, normally including one or more literature, language or civilization courses beyond the intermediate level, or the equivalent. This requirement should be met by June of the sophomore year, and candidates should be studying French during their whole sophomore year. A course in French or European history is also recommended. A B average is required, both overall and in college French courses. Students who do not meet all of these requirements may still be accepted upon strong recommendations from their French professors and college administrators.

Application for admission to the Junior Year in France is made on the official form available at any of the following sources:

    • A form may be obtained from your college/university study abroad office or French department.

  • You can download the application forms as a pdf document.

The application is submitted through the Academic Dean of the applicant's college or the administrative official charged with approving study abroad.

Due to deadlines for admission to French universities, students are urged to submit their completed application as soon as possible after the end of the first semester, and no later than March 15th for full-year and for fall semester enrollment, and October 15th for spring semester enrollment. Students will be informed of acceptance as soon as possible after those dates. Late applications will be considered on a space-available basis.

There is a $50 non-refundable application fee. This fee is waived for students from institutions having special affiliation agreements with the Sweet Briar College Junior Year in France.
