Living Arrangements

For the best results in language improvement and cultural advantages, students will be lodged in selected French homes in Paris, Tours, and Nice, where they can hear and speak French and be exposed to French life and customs.

In Paris families are located in Paris proper, not in the suburbs, with the exception of Neuilly and Boulogne, two of the better districts easily accessible by metro or bus.

In Nice students are placed with host families located in the busy city center or in quieter neighborhoods.  All living locations are easily accessible by public transportation to the university campuses.

Requests for other living arrangements must be made at the time of application or as soon as possible afterwards.

Hostesses usually accept students on a demi-pension basis (breakfast 7 days a week and dinner 6 days a week). Students are responsible for their own lunches. Room and board is provided until May 30th for Paris and May 2st for Nice. (December 18th for fall semester students) or the day after the student's last examination if later.

Living standards in France are certainly adequate although they may differ from those to which some students are accustomed. Students should be flexible and understand that their preferences regarding food, animals, smoking habits, etc. cannot always be accommodated. Students who believe that they are unable or unwilling to adjust to new living conditions should consider this matter carefully before deciding to study abroad.
