
Professor Ronald Horwege inducts six students into Delta Phi Alpha, the German honor society

The Lambda Eta Chapter of the Delta Phi Alpha National German Honor Society
inducted six students on April 23, 2002 during a ceremony held in the Mary Helen
Cochran Library.
The six students selected for membership are Donyele Gibson '02, Ellicott City,
Md.; Jennifer Neureuther '03, Berkeley, Calif.; Megan Sinner '04, Shenandoah
Junction, W.Va.; Virginia-Anne Fowler '04, Lovettsville, Va.; Kathryn Lawson '04,
Chanhassen, Minn.; and Karlena Sakas '05, Springfield, Va.
Delta Phi Alpha seeks to recognize excellence in the study of German and to
provide an incentive for higher scholarship. The Society aims to promote the
study of the German language, literature and civilization and endeavors to
emphasize those aspects of German life and culture which are of universal value
and which contribute to man's eternal search for peace and truth.
To be elected to membership in Delta Phi Alpha, a student must have taken a
minimum of two years of college or university German or their equivalent with the
attainment of sophomore standing and an official registration in an advanced
course.
She must also have attained an average standing of B+ or its equivalent in all
German courses taken and a minimum of B- or its equivalent in all courses of
study at the college or university level and indicate continued interest in the
study of the German language and German literature.
Delta Phi Alpha Society, founded in 1927, now has more than 240 chapters,
including the Lambda Eta Chaper at Sweet Briar, established in 2001.
