The Vixens took home a yellow ribbon from the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship held April 11 at Bridgewater College, tying with Washington & Lee University for third place in the equestrian competition. The team from Hollins University won overall, with Bridgewater claiming the second-place spot.
Teams from Randolph and Lynchburg colleges rounded out the field of conference members who competed.
Riding for Sweet Briar were Katie Davilli ’09 on SBC’s Nassau, Sarah Fishback ’10 on Almond, Alison Sims ’09 on SBC’s Hatrick and Morganne Young ’11 on SBC’s Cassie.
SBC riding director Shelby French, who coached Sweet Briar’s ODAC team, said it was a “really tough championship, with the scores being very close among all six teams.”
French had a chance to talk with the judges, Ernie and Betty Oare. “They were really impressed with the quality of the riders, their turnout and their performance,” she said.
“Betty thought that this competition was a good demonstration of what can be achieved in a top-quality college riding program that provides great coaching and guidance in the development of their riders.”
ODAC also has announced this year’s all-conference team. Of the 10 members, three — Sims, Davilli and Fishback — are Sweet Briar students.
