Five retired members of the Sweet Briar College faculty were awarded emeritus status by the Sweet Briar College board of directors at their April meeting. They are William Hostetler, Allen Huszti, Dominique Leveau, Susan Piepho and Mike Richards.
Hostetler, associate professor in economics and director of the business management program, served on Sweet Briar’s faculty from 1986 to 2006. Huszti, professor of music, served the College from 1972 to 2006.
Leveau, professor of French, served the College from 1978 to 2006; Susan Piepho, professor of chemistry, was on the faculty from 1971 to 2007; and Mike Richards, professor of history, served from 1966 to 2004.
To be considered for emeritus status, a faculty member must meet the following criteria: they must have retired; served the College as a full-time faculty member for 15 years or more, and they must hold the appropriate terminal degree in their field.
The board also announced the following promotions:
Cheryl Warnock was promoted from assistant to associate professor in theater/technical director; Shelby French was promoted from director and associate professor in riding to director and professor of riding; and Raina Robeva was promoted from associate professor to professor of mathematical sciences.
Holly Goulde was promoted from assistant to associate professor in education and granted tenure. Tenure also was granted to Tracy Hamilton, who was promoted from assistant to associate professor in art history, and Nicholas Ross, who was promoted from assistant to associate professor in music.
