The Vixens dropped their season opener 0-9 to 14th nationally-ranked Christopher Newport University (CNU) on September 1.
The Vixens came out strong, taking three shots within the first 30 seconds of the game. CNU came back and were able to keep the momentum for the rest of the game. The Vixens were not disappointed with the effort they put forth, they plan on learning from this game and moving on.
Highlighting the game was goalkeeper Madeline Wilson (Orange, VA), who posted 13 saves on the night. Madeline looked great and ran the defense very well. In addition, she turned down CNU many times and really made their offense execute.
Also posting a superb game were seniors Melissa Carron (Grosse Pointe, MI), and Sara Sheppard (Virginia Beach, VA). They kept the team in the game by keeping their heads up and working wherever there was a teachable moment.
Alexandra St. Pierre, '12Sophomore back Alexandra St. Pierre (Winston-Salem, NC) was on a
mission, leading the defense by creating passing opportunities and pressuring
Christopher Newport to produce.
It was a hard way to start the season but don't count the Vixens out this year, they are growing stronger every day.
Look for the Vixens back in action on September 12 at the Bridgewater Tournament where they will take on Drew University at 3 pm.
