Jean Hazelwood has been hired as new director of athletic facilities at Sweet Briar College. Hazelwood will be in charge of the new 53,000-square-foot Fitness and Athletics Center, along with Daisy Williams Gymnasium and all outdoor facilities.
Hazelwood has been director of athletic facilities at Randolph College for the past four years. She is a graduate of Randolph-Macon Woman's College, where she was a member of the varsity soccer team. After graduating from R-MWC, she earned a Master of Education in health and physical education from East Stroudsburg University.
Hazelwood has many years of experience in her field. She was an intern at Brown University, where she served as an event manager for the university's varsity athletics department. She also served as the facility and equipment manager, assisting in the daily operation of the athletic facilities and managing game day operations for 25 varsity sports at Vassar College before returning to R-MWC as director of athletic facilities.
“It will be nice to have Jean on board with us as we open our new Fitness and Athletics Center,” SBC director of athletics Kelly Morrison said. “Jean understands the value of a women’s college education, and she will be a leader and a good role model for our young women. Jean will be working with a number of our colleagues on campus, so it will be to our advantage that she can hit the ground running.”
Hazelwood’s first day is Thursday, Oct. 1.
