The Senior Dance Concert is coming up fast as four Sweet Briar dance majors design, choreograph and rehearse their pieces.
The concert will be held at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 16 and 17 in the upper dance studio of Babcock Fine Arts Center. Admission is free and the seating is open.
The show will feature pieces by Jasmine Jones, Aili McGill, Taylor Newman and Mallory Duff. Each senior dance major is designing three pieces, including a solo, a small piece with three dancers and a large piece with six dancers.
McGill’s self-choreographed routines include an ironic piece danced with a skeleton that provides hilarious personal commentaries on relationships. Her small, group piece is an intimate look into her past with a dance about her high school friends and experiences.
“This concert will be a unique once-in-a-life-time collaboration of brilliant minds,” McGill said.
Newman’s colorful and energetic pieces comment on societal constraints and self-discovery. Dancing has been a passion of Newman’s since she was 12 years old. “My goal is to relay this passion to the audience through my choreography,” she said.
Jones’ choreographed pieces include a solo entitled, “Work in Progress,” and a large group piece entitled, “State of the Union: WAKE UP,” which details the realities that people either deal with or ignore. Jones guarantees “a performance that will not be forgotten.”
