Greek tragedy “The Bacchae,” opens Thursday, Oct. 29 in Babcock Fine Arts
Center’s Murchison Lane Auditorium. Shows begin at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 29, 30 and
31, and at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1. The Nov. 1 performance is sign
interpreted.
For the first time in his 23 years at the College, theater professor Bill Kershner is directing a play cast entirely with Sweet Briar students, even the male roles. Although playing the opposite gender may be challenging, he said, it’s “no different from when the ancient Greeks performed it, because only men were actors so they had to play the women.”
Tickets go on sale Monday, Oct. 19 and are $5 for non-SBC students, $7 for senior citizens, $10 for adults, and free for SBC faculty, staff, students and alumnae and children younger than 12. For tickets, call the box office at (434) 381-6120 or visit LynchburgTickets.com.
