Sweet Briar Wins Five CASE Awards

Sweet Briar’s media, marketing and communications office has received five CASE awards for several of its publications.
CASE, the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, honored the College with an Award of Excellence for its feature and news writing, and in four categories, Sweet Briar was named a Grand Award Winner, including total programs (publications programs), magazines (alumni magazines), audiovisual communications (films and videotapes), and printed publications (student recruitment).
“Sweet Briar College’s recruitment materials are fun, clean and crisp,” the judges said, adding that the “message of a women’s academic and creative college comes through consistently.”
Among the jury’s favorites were Sweet Briar’s magazine covers (“outstanding”), its “strong” photography, and the consistent use of color, design and “to the point”-writing throughout all publications. Judges also liked the College’s music video “Sweet Briar Woman,” which stood out among a “large number of entries.” Judges called the video “excellent,” adding that it “left [them] with the impression that a Sweet Briar Woman is unique and special.”
Zach Kincaid, director of media, marketing and communications at Sweet Briar, is traveling to Atlanta to accept the awards at the 2012 CASE District III annual conference, Feb. 19-21.
“It’s gratifying when people notice the hard work that we’ve put into raising awareness about the empowerment and education of young women at Sweet Briar,” he said.
“At the core of all of these publications and productions is that celebration, because Sweet Briar is a place where young women truly find a place to flourish, academically and socially.”
CASE’s North American districts offer awards programs to recognize and celebrate outstanding programs and individuals. District awards honor everything from annual reports to websites, distinguished service to new professionals and everything in between. Virginia is part of the Southeast District III, which also includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.
