At Sweet Briar, the integration and interconnection of students’ academic and co-curricular experience is fundamental to our philosophy. The Office of Co-curricular Life works closely and collaboratively with the dean of the College, with faculty members, and with various College offices to facilitate a positive and innovative student life experience. The co-curricular life staff is committed to supporting and challenging students to make the most of their Sweet Briar experience. Students actively engage in the life of the College and are encouraged to take responsibility for their lives on campus through a wide range of intellectual, social, cultural, spiritual and recreational activities.
Parents and families are valued and important partners at Sweet Briar. When questions or situations occur, encourage your daughter to take that first step. At Sweet Briar, students have the primary responsibility for their lives and experience, for meeting the College’s expectations, and for the communication of information with their parents or guardians.
Student self-responsibility and integrity are important values at the College. This is especially important when academic or social issues arise. If you contact a staff member about a concern, we will usually want to involve your daughter in the conversation. We recognize that there are some situations in which consulting with families will be important, but ordinarily we want students to resolve situations through the numerous campus resources that are available.
We want students to celebrate their goals and successes, to see opportunities, and to solve problems in their lives. We strive to help students create a rewarding experience for themselves, both academically and personally. There are many persons at Sweet Briar to assist and support your daughter in her journey.
