DIRECTIONS TO THE SWEET BRIAR COLLEGE

HARRIET HOWELL ROGERS RIDING CENTER

From the North via 81:

-Take I-81 toward ROANOKE.

-Merge onto I-64 E via EXIT 221 toward RICHMOND, 12.5 miles.

-Merge onto US-250 E via EXIT 99 toward AFTON/CHARLOTTESVILLE, 3.8 miles.

-Turn RIGHT onto VA-151/CRITZERS SHOP ROAD, 2.5 miles

-Stay STRAIGHT to go onto VA-151/VA-6/PATRICK HENRY HIGHWAY, 6.2 miles.

-Turn LEFT onto VA-6/PIKE ROAD, 5.7 miles.

-Turn RIGHT onto THOMAS NELSON HWY/Route 29 S.  Continue to follow Route 29 S, 25.5 miles.

-Take the MADISON HEIGHTS/SWEET BRIAR COLLEGE EXIT.

-Drive two miles past the college entrance.

-Turn RIGHT just before the BEST BET/CITGO gas station on to Route 663/SMOKEY HOLLOW ROAD.  

-Drive about one mile, bearing RIGHT at the fork.  

-At the bottom of a hill you will see a sign for HARRIET ROGERS RIDING CENTER, turn right.


From the North via 29 Charlottesville:

-Take the MADISON HEIGHTS/SWEET BRIAR COLLEGE EXIT.

-Drive two miles past the college entrance.

-Turn RIGHT just before the BEST BET/CITGO gas station on to Route 663/SMOKEY HOLLOW ROAD.  

-Drive about one mile, bearing RIGHT at the fork.  

-At the bottom of a fairly steep hill you will see a sign for HARRIET ROGERS RIDING CENTER, turn right.


From Lynchburg:

-On Route 29 N Business drive about ten miles past the James River to Faulconerville.  
After Harding’s Clocks (on right), get in the left lane.

-Turn LEFT just past the BEST BET/CITGO gas station crossing Route 29 S to get on to Route 663/SMOKEY HOLLOW ROAD.

-Drive about one mile, bearing RIGHT at the fork.  

-At the bottom of a fairly steep hill you will see a sign for the HARRIET ROGERS RIDING CENTER, turn right.  


From South of Lynchburg:

-On Route 29 N just past the Lynchburg airport, exit onto Route 460 East towards APPOMATTOX.  

-EXIT at Route 29 N Bypass (Charlottesville/Amherst).  

-EXIT at Route 29 Business/Amherst/Sweet Briar College.  

-Turn right at the stop sign.  Make another right hand turn creating a clover leaf loop that leads to a highway exit ramp.  Stay on the exit ramp to exit toward Sweet Briar College.  -Drive two miles past the college entrance.

-Turn RIGHT just before the BEST BET/CITGO gas station on to Route 663/SMOKEY HOLLOW ROAD.  

-Drive about one mile, bearing RIGHT at the fork.  

-At the bottom of a fairly steep hill you will see a sign for HARRIET ROGERS RIDING CENTER, turn right.


From the West in a car:

-On I-81 N, take Route 60 E EXIT at LEXINGTON, VA.

-Follow Route 60 E to BUENA VISTA.

-Follow Route 60 E all the way to Route 29 S after the AMHERST traffic circle.  This is a very twisty, mountainous road over which we don’t send horse vans.

-Take the MADISON HEIGHTS/SWEET BRIAR COLLEGE EXIT.

-Drive two miles past the college entrance.

-Turn RIGHT just before the BEST BET/CITGO gas station on to Route 663/SMOKEY HOLLOW ROAD.  

-Drive about one mile, bearing RIGHT at the fork.  

-At the bottom of a fairly steep hill you will see a sign for HARRIET ROGERS RIDING CENTER, turn right.


From the West with a horse trailer:

-On I-81 N, take the Route 60 E EXIT at LEXINGTON, VA.

-Follow Route 60 E to BUENA VISTA.

-At the Hardee’s on Route 60 in BUENA VISTA, turn right to follow Route 151/130.  Part way to Route 29, the two roads will split.  Stay left/straight on Route 130 all the way to Route 29.  This is a little bit longer in mileage, but less strain on the driver and truck as there is a much shorter mountainous stretch.

-Go LEFT/NORTH on Route 29 for 5-6 miles to FAULCONERVILLE.

-After Harding’s Clocks (on right), get in the left lane.

-Turn LEFT just past the BEST BET/CITGO gas station crossing Route 29 S to get on to Route 663/SMOKEY HOLLOW ROAD.

-Drive about one mile, bearing RIGHT at the fork.  

-At the bottom of a fairly steep hill you will see a sign for HARRIET ROGERS RIDING CENTER, turn right.


From main campus:

-As you enter the main campus, you will drive past the security check point.

-As you are driving around the first traffic circle, take the first right following the signs for the Riding Center.

-At the top of the hill, follow the road as it curves to the left.  Navigate around a second traffic circle continuing straight.  Follow this road until you reach a large parking area to your left.    

-Take the second left into the parking lot, driving through the lot.  

-Take a right onto a gravel road.  Follow the gravel road for approximately 1 mile.  

-The road will travel along some fields and then enter the woods while heading up a hill.  -Toward the top of the hill you will want to stay straight on the main road.  The road will then go down hill toward a fence line.

-At the bottom of the hill, take a left.  

-Follow this road toward the riding center.

-Take a left just past the main stables into the parking area.

-To access the offices, walk through the first wing of the stables into a courtyard, turn right, and walk through the double doors.  

-The offices are to the left behind the glass door.
