Sociology at Sweet Briar College

Our mission is to help students better understand themselves and their world, and to put that understanding to good use both personally and professionally. 

To this end, we strive to cultivate a perspective which makes the social forces that shape our lives more visible; teach the skills to study those social forces empirically; provide opportunities for students to use these skills in answering the questions that most interest them; and guide students in integrating these skills into their overall academic experience and career plans.
