Arts and cultural organizations face the same management challenges as for-profit organizations — and more. Administrators and managers of arts and cultural organizations address human resources, legal and tax issues, public relations and marketing, public policy and advocacy, and community development. Organizational leaders must also build and maintain fundraising and development operations.
Sweet Briar’s Arts Management Program prepares students to manage these kinds of challenges as they embark on careers building and strengthening arts and cultural organizations.
Sweet Briar offers an Arts Management Certificate for students who want to expand both creative and analytical skills through hands-on learning experiences on and off campus. The program combines theoretical knowledge and practical experience in arts management and museum studies within the framework of a liberal arts education.
In addition to classwork, faculty will guide students through for-credit internship and optional practicum experiences suited to their specific areas of interest in the arts or cultural management.
