Special Education Add-On Endorsement

In addition to the BA and MAT in elementary and the MAT in secondary/PreK-12 education, students can earn an endorsement in K-12 general curriculum special education. By earning this endorsement, students become qualified to (a) serve as a special education teacher and/or (b) provide high-quality instruction and interventions as a general education teacher. This endorsement includes the EDUC 211 course already completed during students’ primary endorsement area. Additionally, the following courses are required:

  • EDUC 313 Specialized Instruction for Diverse Learners
  • EDUC 322 Assessment and Decision-Making in Special Education
  • EDUC 410 Transitions, Collaboration, & Consultation in Special Education

Finally, students earning the special education endorsement must complete a student teaching experience in addition to their coursework. Interested students should meet with Teacher Education Program Director and Field Placement Coordinator to individually plan for this component.
