Admissions Criteria
We review applications holistically, meaning we consider more than just grades and test scores. We evaluate your:
- High school courses taken and their academic levels (AP/IB/DE, honors, accelerated, etc.)
- Academic performance
- Extracurricular activities and community service
- SAT/ACT test scores (Note: For high school GPAs of 3.0 or higher, test scores are optional)
- Secondary school report and recommendations (optional)
- College essay (optional)
Here’s what the Class of 2026 looked like:
- Average high school GPA of our Presidential Scholars: 4.00
- Average high school GPA of the complete class: 3.66
- Average combined SAT score of our Presidential Scholars: 1370
- Average combined SAT score of the complete class: 1210

- Represented 7 countries, including Bangladesh, Brazil, Germany, Myanmar, Mexico, Nepal and Venezuela. Sweet Briar is home to international students from 18 countries across five continents. They make up 10% of the student body.
