LiveSafe

LiveSafe is Sweet Briar’s safety communications app. Please download it from the Apple Store or Google Play. It’s free and will help you feel empowered to take control of your own safety.

The app will allow you to:

  1. Share information with campus safety officers. When you see something suspicious, share that information right away.
  2. Quickly submit a report that will go to the appropriate office on campus. If you witness an incident, you can even submit photo or video evidence.
  3. Quickly access help in an emergency. Communicate with local emergency services and campus safety — no matter where you are in the world.
  4. Quickly Call or Message an officer to report an Emergency.
  5. Get access to a wide variety of resources, including what our alert sirens mean, a campus map and contact information for important offices on campus, as well as local safety resources.
  6. Receive weather alerts and other emergency communication.
  7. Request a security escort or ask a friend or relative to watch you walk via the app, ensuring that someone is right there helping you feel safe.

You will get safety-related text messages on your phone, when necessary, without the app, but for full functionality of this robust safety system, we encourage you to download the app.

Frequently Asked Questions

How go I get started?

  1. Download “LiveSafe” from the Apple Store or Google Play
  2. Register with your phone number
  3. Search for and select Sweet Briar College
Does LiveSafe replace 911?

NO. In an emergency, dial 911 or use the app to call.

When should I call campus safety instead of 911?

If an emergency is time-sensitive or poses a risk to life or health, call 911. Campus safety should be called for non-emergencies situations.

What kind of information should I report?

Sweet Briar students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to use the app to communicate with campus safety about any security issue on campus. For example, you might report vandalism or if you run into our neighborhood bear. You can also reach out if someone is being harassed. The app will guide you through the reporting process.

What if I send a report in the wrong category?

No worries. Campus safety can easily re-categorize reports.

What if a report turns out to be a mistake?

You will not be penalized for making untrue claims as long as they aren’t purposely false. Always feel safe to share information with campus safety.

What does “location sharing” mean? Are you tracking my location?

No. The College does not track anyone’s location using the app.

Allowing the app to know your location does two things:

  1. Allows us to push notifications to people in a specific area on campus. For example, if the power has gone out in a building or a road is closed, we can notify people in that location.
  2. Allows safety personnel to locate you should that be required in an emergency.
What will LiveSafe do with my data?

LiveSafe respects the privacy of individuals and law enforcement agencies. Information belongs solely to the law enforcement agency for which it was designated.
