Applying for Financial Aid

We try to take the guesswork out of financial aid by providing you with an easy-to-follow checklist for your senior year:

  1. Apply for admission to Sweet Briar as soon as the application is available (typically mid-August).
  2. Sometime between Sept. 1 and Dec. 31, use Sweet Briar’s net price calculator.
  3. File your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). In 2023, due to changes from the Dept. of Education, the FAFSA will open in late December.  When you file your FAFSA (studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa), be sure to include SBC’s FAFSA code 003742.
  4. Eagerly await your award package. Those meeting the stated deadlines will typically receive a financial aid package starting in January.

Other activities you should be doing to help reduce college costs include looking into non-SBC-specific scholarships. You can create online scholarship profiles on sites such as Fastweb, Chegg, BigFuture. Also, visit your college counseling/guidance office regularly for information about local scholarships.
