Orange Grove Dance, a dance, design and film company, will visit Sweet Briar for a unique outdoor performance Saturday, May 1 at 8 p.m.
The dance takes place among an ever-expanding and contracting light garden, as performers move and refocus the lights on each other from distances far and near. The choreography will run the gamut of virtuosic space-traversing solos to intimate partnering duets and cyclonic group sections. Each dancer and light serves as a reminder of the importance of the individual and the importance of casting our lights together out into the dark and unknown. Orange Grove Dance’s transformative, site-specific choreography and immersive lighting design will use custom-built wireless lighting units to pivot performers and audiences alike into a surreal luminescent landscape that reveals the connection and power of the collective across difficult times and distances.
Colette Krogol and Matt Reeves are choreographers, performers, filmmakers and mixed media designers. They have been making work collaboratively for over twelve years as the artistic directors of Orange Grove Dance.
The performance starts outside of Babcock Fine Arts Center and will migrate to the soccer field. The event is free and open to the public. Masks are required.
