For most, the beginning of fall revolves around pumpkin patches, apple picking and haunted houses. However, for high school seniors, it is marked with college open houses, campus tours, applications and stress. But have no fear! Sweet Briar makes your visit a breeze with our fall open houses. Keep reading to find out the five reasons you should attend a Sweet Briar Open House this fall.

1. It takes less than 5 minutes to register!

There are two fall open houses coming up — Oct. 13 and Nov. 9 — and signing up is easy! Simply follow this link, pick which day you would like to attend, and fill out some information on yourself. No, I didn’t miss a step. Yes, it is really that simple!

2. You get to network and use your time wisely.

Open houses are designed to help you use your time efficiently. Not only do you want to get a lay of the land, but you also want to meet current students and professors in your area of interest. Regular campus visits are great, but they don’t always guarantee getting to meet with that amazing history professor you heard about, or talk to students to ease your concern over taking Calculus II. An open house, however, provides a time to meet professors and students in small group settings and really get to know them, the college atmosphere, and just what makes attending Sweet Briar so special.

3. The day is designed to hit the high points.

The day is designed to give you an all-around view of the College from student life to academics. Included in this list of events is a classroom experience, a tour of campus and a delicious lunch. Throughout the day, there will be plenty of chances for parents to ask questions and for students to socialize. Overall, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to really experience our campus. Once all the scheduled events are over, the afternoon is yours to visit more of campus. Check out the Boathouse and Lower Lake, visit the Book Shop, or explore all of the wonderful off-campus opportunities we have here being so close to the Blue Ridge Mountains.

4. You can meet other prospective students!

Not only will you meet professors and current students, but there will also be many other potential Vixens visiting. This is a great way to get to know your future cohort. There is comfort in being able to have friends in your grade before you even start school. You may even find your future roommate!

5. You get to visit Sweet Briar College.

This is my home away from home. Whenever I get the chance to tell anyone about this magical place, I do. So of course, I’m going to include it on my list because you need to visit! Yes, I’m biased towards Sweet Briar but also, I am adamant that you need to set foot on any campus you are considering. This helps you determine the atmosphere and really helps you understand the unique culture of each college or university. Ultimately, visiting campus will help you decide if that college is the right fit for you.
