The VCCA is located just minutes from Sweet Briar’s main campus.
Sweet Briar College and the
Virginia Center for the Creative Arts are now accepting applications from Sweet Briar alumnae artists for the Forsyth Fellowship — a fully funded two-week residency at VCCA.
“This is an exciting opportunity for Sweet Briar alumnae to further their artistic endeavors and participate in a unique artistic experience,” said Laura Pharis, a longtime professor of studio art at Sweet Briar College.
The application deadline is July 1 for residencies from Jan. 2, 2020-June 30, 2020. Notification will go out by Aug. 31. You can find the online application
here.
The Forsyth Fellowship provides a fully funded two-week residency at VCCA and $100 reimbursement for travel expenses. One of the leading artists’ communities in the world with locations in Amherst, Virginia and Auvillar, France, the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts (VCCA) is located directly across U.S. 29 from Sweet Briar College. The fellowship is awarded to an alumna who has demonstrated exceptional ability and commitment in the area of the visual arts. The selected applicant need not have been a studio art major during her time at Sweet Briar College, or to have graduated from Sweet Briar, but she should currently be seriously pursuing creative work in the visual arts.
The VCCA provides a private studio and a private bedroom with semi-private bath, three prepared meals each day, beautiful surroundings, solitude and the camaraderie of other creators. Sweet Briar College offers access to its gym, library and dining hall to all VCCA fellows.
