Sweet Briar is such a beautiful place to call home. And with over 3,250 acres to explore, the opportunities for great photos are plentiful. Even as a sophomore, I’m still finding new and exciting places I didn’t even know existed on campus — like the many bamboo thickets. This would be too long of a blog post to name all of the amazing places to photograph on campus, so I have narrowed it down to my ultimate favorites — which was super hard because my favorite spots ever keep changing as I discover new ones. (Hopefully, I’ll be able to do this blog again when I’m a senior!) Without further ado and in no particular order, here are my favorite photo spots on campus.
First up: the Community Garden

Best at the beginning of the fall semester, the Sweet Briar Community Garden is a great place to photograph some beautiful and colorful flowers.
Surprisingly great anytime of year: the Boathouse

Whether it’s for the fall colors, the first snow of the winter or a calm spring day, the Boathouse is always an amazing, picturesque place.
An amazing place no matter how hot or cold it may be: the beautiful library

Mary Helen Cochran Library isn’t just for reading and studying. With its gorgeous architecture and overall artistry, it was a must for my list.
Sweet Briar wouldn’t be Sweet Briar without Monument Hill.

The site of Daisy’s grave and the “screaming statue,” Monument Hill provides great photo opportunities and one of the best views of campus.
Last but not least, my most recent find: the bamboo thickets

The bamboo itself is fun to take pictures of, but it can also be used as a unique background for portraits. A special shoutout to first-year Katelyn Lewis (left) and sophomore Abby Cross for posing as models!
