The secret to an unforgettable college experience? Get involved, say our admissions ambassadors. To do that, you might have to leave the cozy comforts of your snuggly room and jump right into the action. (Okay, you can take baby steps, too.) Here’s more from our experts:
Olympia LeHota performs with her dance group at Quad Rocks.
“One way to step out of your comfort zone is to leave your room! If you live without a roommate, sometimes you forget that socializing is good for you, so get up and find a new hangout space. Also, find out who your student leaders are on campus. SGA members are always happy to help you find anything you need. Go to the events held on campus. They are free to you and there is always something going on.” — Olympia LeHota ’20
Quad Rocks is Sweet Briar’s club fair at the beginning of fall semester.
“Attend Quad Rocks at the beginning of the fall semester. This is a great opportunity to meet the members of our campus clubs and organizations. I would encourage new students to sign up for a club or two just to try it out!” — Caroline Thomas ’19
Indoor rock climbing is a popular Outdoor Program activity during the cold months.
“Do something crazy! Never been rock climbing? Join the Outdoor Program! Never ridden a horse? The riding center specializes in both helping the advanced and teaching the new! Want to be a part of something that will actually help create the college around you? Run for an SGA position! Just jump into it!” — Victoria Stacpoole ’20
Cailey Cobb (front) and fellow admissions ambassador Audrey Peterson race downhill during a Sweet Briar snow day.
“‘Do one thing every day that scares you.’ This Eleanor Roosevelt quote has inspired me to always be pushing for more.” — Cailey Cobb ’20
There’s always someone to talk to — and share a laugh — in Prothro Dining Hall.
“An easy way to get involved on campus is to get off your bed, leave your dorm and sit with a random person in Prothro. I promise it won’t be a ‘Mean Girls’ moment! Just start a conversation with anyone and you’ll likely be sucked into something!” — Asha Stewart ’21
