Beginning in spring 2019, associate degree graduates of Harford Community College in Bel Air, Md., can seamlessly transfer to complete a bachelor’s degree at Sweet Briar College. Preferred programs of study for the agreement between the two schools include biology, business, engineering, psychology and chemistry, as well as English and creative writing.

“Sweet Briar and Harford are very compatible in these programs, and this new articulation agreement paves the route for qualified students to continue on to complete a four-year degree,” Lynn Rainville, dean of the College at Sweet Briar, said. “We’ve mapped curricular pathways so students can easily plan their transferable prerequisite requirements and course-to-course equivalencies to achieve maximum transfer credit.”

“We are very excited that our Harford Community College graduates will be able to transfer and experience the fierce academic programs of Sweet Briar College. As the dean, I am especially enthusiastic that biology, engineering and chemistry programs are included in this agreement,” said Pamela Pape-Lindstrom, dean of science, technology, engineering and mathematics at Harford Community College.

As standard, students can transfer up to 60 credit hours to Sweet Briar with a grade of C- or better. A student also may apply directly to HCC and Sweet Briar College simultaneously, declaring her intention to transfer to Sweet Briar College or, while enrolled at HCC, she may declare her intent to transfer to Sweet Briar College upon completion at HCC. First-time enrollment at Sweet Briar College may occur in either the fall or spring semester. Students must have a minimum grade point average of 2.5, or 3.0 for engineering science. They also may apply for financial aid and are eligible to be considered for merit and need-based scholarships.

Transferring students with a grade point average of 3.5, or who are recognized members of HCC’s Honors Program, will automatically be invited to participate in Sweet Briar’s Honors Program.
