
During a ceremony and luncheon in Prothro today, Sweet Briar College inducted 18 members from the Class of 2020 into its chapter of the national honor society Alpha Lambda Delta.
Alpha Lambda Delta recognizes academic excellence during a student’s first year in college. The purpose of Alpha Lambda Delta is to promote a continued high standard of learning and to encourage superior academic achievement.
Kayleigh Quinn Bekisz, Phoenix Genevieve Brown, DaZané La’Choin Cole, Anna Kathryn Davis, Jordan Leigh Elliott, Valeria Rita Gofigan Ramirez, Kiersten Elise Hawthorne, Julie Marlene Horton, Emily Suzanne Hudson, Olympia Athena Kaete LeHota, Karlynn Grace McCarthy, Amelia Elizabeth Mendelsohn, Raven Lee Minyard, Courtney Lynn Nelson, Carmen Macey Stearns, Lacey Carol Tucker, Emily Nicole Wandling and Emma Marie Zak earned the distinction through outstanding achievement during the 2016-17 academic year.
The students were initiated by Dean of the Faculty Rob Granger.
The chapter also inducted professors Lynn Laufenberg (history), Jeffrey Key (economics) and Abraham Yousef (chemistry) as honorary members.
Sweet Briar established its chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta in 1991. To be eligible, a student must have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher in her first academic year.
