Sweet Briar will again celebrate Amherst County Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28. The event will include a variety of family activities, food trucks and music.

A longtime tradition until 1974, the College revived the community celebration last year and plans to continue holding it each year on the last Saturday in October.

This year, the event is hosted in partnership with the Virginia Cooperative Extension, which “brings the resources of Virginia’s land-grant universities, Virginia Tech and Virginia State University, to the people of the Commonwealth,” according to its website.

Highlights will include concerts by local school bands and choirs; performances by the Amherst Dance Academy; and free activities for children including a rock climbing wall sponsored by the National Guard, hayrides and lawn games. Smart Beginnings will also bring the popular children’s book character “Gus the Bus.” Habitat for Humanity and other departments and organizations of Amherst County will provide informational resources.

Food will be available for purchase from a number of food trucks.
