Sweet Briar Riding announces NCEA, IHSA teams

Sweet Briar College on Thursday announced its first National Collegiate Equestrian Association team. In August, Sweet Briar became the NCEA’s first Division III member.

After tryouts on Sunday, the following students will be competing: Sarah Miller ’20, Katie Balding ’21, Makayla Benjamin ’18, Emily Schlosberg ’19, Aoife Magner ’19, Ailish Rhoades ’20, Courtney Barry ’18 and Lily Peterson ’21. Riding program director Mimi Wroten ’93 is the head coach and Lizzie Fisch is the assistant coach.

The NCEA team will kick off its first season on Friday, Sept. 15, at Delaware State University.

On Monday, riding also announced the roster for its 2017-2018 Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association Team: Sarah Miller ’20, Jules Sudol ’18, Ailish Rhoades ’20, Emily Schlosberg ’19, Lily Peterson ’21, Claudia Sadler ’21, Kaitlin Duecker ’21, Chandler Fox ’20, Courtney Barry ’18, Ellyn Narodowy ’20, Abbey Narodowy ’20, Alix Hearn ’21, Erin Snyder ’20, Makayla Benjamin ’18, Katie Balding ’21, Annabeth Griffin ’18, Willa Poepsel ’21, Marina Biel ’18, Amber Snyder ’20, Jade Ashley ’20, McKenzie Michiels ’20, Aoife Magner ’19, Cassie Fenton ’18, Nicole Sabovik ’19, Lauren Helber ’20 and Cassie Mills ’20. Lizzie Fisch is the head coach and Madison Cromwell ’16 is the assistant coach.

The IHSA team will start fall competition on Saturday, Sept. 23, at Virginia Commonwealth University.
