On Sunday, Sweet Briar’s Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association Zone 4, Region 2 qualifiers headed to the University of Virginia to compete in the finals.

Only the top-two placements of each class move on to zone finals, where they hope to qualify for nationals. One Sweet Briar rider managed to make the cut. Makayla Benjamin ’18 emerged as the Zone 4, Region 2 open-fences champion and will continue to zones. Benjamin also finished sixth in open flat and completed the year as the Cacchione Cup Reserve Champion.

Sweet Briar’s three other qualifiers also had an impressive showing. Maddy Lee ’17 finished third in novice fences, while Aoife Magner ’19 scored a third place in intermediate flat. Emily Schlosberg ’19 rode a solid round in intermediate fences against 11 other competitors. The team finished up fifth for the season.

Benjamin will head to IHSA Zone 4 finals at St. Andrews University on April 8.
