Horses, riders and other members of the Sweet Briar community will gather in the quad at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, to light the College’s Christmas tree. It’s a festive tradition that goes back decades, with horses decked out in jolly holiday gear, and students getting into the spirit by singing traditional Christmas carols. The event is sponsored by the Student Government Association and the Riding Council.
The seasonal revelry continues with the Sweet Tones Winter Concert at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, in Memorial Chapel. The Sweet Tones are Sweet Briar’s a cappella group.
On Sunday, Dec. 11, the Sweet Briar community will gather for the annual Holiday Pops and Vespers Service, starting at 6:30 p.m. in the chapel.
The Chamber and Concert choirs perform during the community sing-a-long that will feature many holiday favorites. Vespers, a longstanding and cherished custom at Sweet Briar and in the Amherst community, follows the traditional order of Nine Lessons and Carols.
Beginning at 8 p.m., Vespers attendees are invited to a Holiday Chocolate Party at Sweet Briar House.
