Sweet Briar riders compete at Bridgewater

Sweet Briar College’s Intercollegiate Horse Show Association team competed against riders from 10 other colleges in its second IHSA show of the season at Bridgewater College this past weekend.

Emily Schlosberg ’19 qualified for Regionals in the intermediate fences division and Nicole Sabovik ’19 took home a blue ribbon in the novice flat division at her first IHSA show. Sabovik also placed sixth in novice fences among a strong group of competitors.

Makayla Benjamin ’18 scored a second place in open flat and sixth in open fences. Aofie Magner ’19 placed second in intermediate flat and sixth in her open fences section. Katrina Matz ’17 was also second in her intermediate flat section and placed sixth in her intermediate fences section.

Third-place ribbons went to Marina Biel ’18 in advanced walk, trot, canter; McKenzie Michiels ’20 in beginner walk, trot, canter; Annabeth Griffin ’18 for her IHSA debut in beginner walk, trot, canter; and Hannah Beall ’17 in walk, trot. Fourth-place ribbons were won by Rosie Powers ’18 in open flat and Jade Ashley ’20 in walk, trot. Maddy Lee ’17 placed fifth in a tough group in the novice flat division. Schlosberg was sixth in novice flat and fifth in intermediate fences.

“The Vixens rode very well and are hard at work getting ready for their next IHSA show at Hollins,” Coach Lizzie Fisch said.

The team will travel to Hollins University on Oct. 29.
