Vixen riders claim reserve championship at season’s first IHSA competition

Sweet Briar College’s Intercollegiate Horse Show Association team was reserve champion Saturday at Randolph College in the first competition of the fall semester.

Veteran rider Makayla Benjamin ’18 started off the morning with two blue ribbons in open flat and open fences and was reserve high-point rider for the day. Second-place ribbons were won by Maddy Lee ’17 in novice fences, Emily Schlosberg ’19 in intermediate fences and Ellyn Narodowy ’20 in walk/trot/canter.

Aoife Magner ’19 and Maddy Lee ’17 both scored third-place ribbons, Magner in intermediate flat and Lee in novice flat. Fourth-place ribbons went to Marina Biel ’18 in walk/trot/canter and McKenzie Michiels ’20 in beginning walk/trot/canter. Fifth-place finishers were Courtney Barry ’18 in intermediate fences, Cassie Fenton ’18 in novice fences, and Jade Ashley ’20 and Hannah Beall ’17 in walk/trot. Katrina Matz ’17 finished sixth in intermediate flat. Katie Fisher ’17 also competed in novice flat.

“I was very impressed with the team,” said Coach Lizzie Fisch. “They’ve been working really hard these past few weeks, and it showed.”

Next, the team will travel to Bridgewater College on Oct. 15 for another IHSA competition.
