Finding the right college is among the most important decisions many high school students make, and even in the age of social media and virtual tours, nothing can replace an old-fashioned campus visit. To save students time and money, the Council of Independent Colleges in Virginia (CICV) each year hosts Virginia Private College Week, a campus visit marathon for students interested in a private college education. Sweet Briar College is one of 24 CICV members to open its doors for the program, which takes place July 25-30.

Virginia Private College Week is geared toward rising high school juniors and seniors and their families, but prospective transfer students are also invited. The program, offered twice daily at participating institutions, includes a campus tour and an information session about admissions, financial aid, and academic and extracurricular programs.

Sessions are typically offered Monday through Friday at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., and at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Sweet Briar sessions deviate slightly: The afternoon program will start at 1 p.m. each day Monday through Friday. While registration is not required, students are encouraged to contact the colleges they plan to visit ahead of time. You can sign up for a Sweet Briar College tour at visit.sbc.edu/virginia-private-college-week.

Prospective students who visit at least three colleges will receive three application fee waivers and will be entered into a drawing to receive a $500 Amazon gift card. Students may use the application fee waivers at any college participating in Virginia Private College Week — not necessarily the ones they visited. Application fee waivers will be emailed to eligible participants in late September.

A handy map of Virginia private colleges and college profiles on the CICV website make it easy for students to plan their visits.
