According to a
recent article published by TimeOut.com, America’s second-best cookie comes from Levain Bakery in Manhattan, a trendy shop co-founded by Sweet Briar College graduate Pam Weekes ’83.
The list includes 15 creations from across the country, with a sea salt chocolate chip cookie from Minnesota taking the crown. Levain Bakery’s chocolate chip walnut concoction wowed the judges in several categories.
“At this Upper West Side nook in Manhattan, size matters. Seductively gooey on the inside and golden brown on the outside, this Holy Grail of cookies is the size of your head and big enough to feed your whole crew (or not),” according to the article.
“Semisweet chocolate morsels and chunks of walnuts mix and mingle, making each buttery bite better than the next. The only thing worse than waiting on the long line out the door is the sinking feeling you’ll get when you’re left with no more bites.”
Weekes and her bakery were featured in the College’s
spring 2016 magazine.
