Members of Sweet Briar’s choral ensembles and the Sweet Tones will perform in Hampden-Sydney College’s Spring Fling Concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 22, at Crawley Forum.

The Concert and Advanced choirs will join the Hampden-Sydney Men’s Chorus and a cappella group, The Acousticals, in presenting “An Evening of American Song.” Hampden-Sydney’s Helena von Rueden and Sweet Briar’s Marcia Thom-Kaley will conduct. R. David Salvage and Kristen Topham will accompany on piano.

The program will feature songs such as Aaron Copland’s “Simple Gifts” and Amy F. Bernon’s “Alleluia, Alleluia” performed by the Sweet Briar women. The Men’s Chorus will sing more than half a dozen selections, such as “At the River,” “I’m Bound Away,” “Down to the River to Pray” and “How Can I Keep From Singing?”

Both school’s songs — “Sweet Briar, Sweet Briar, Flower Fair” and “Hampden-Sydney Hymn” — also are on the program. The groups will combine for a rendition of “Shenandoah,” arranged by Mack Wilberg.

For more information, contact Thom-Kaley at (434) 381-6331 or von Rueden at (434) 223-6367.
