The concert will focus on three pieces: the “Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Piano” by Alexander Glazunov (1865-1936), “Sonata Op. 19 for Alto Saxophone and Piano” by Paul Creston (1906-1985), and “Sonata No. 3 for Alto Saxophone and Piano” by George Frideric Handel (1685-1759).
Schuster, a native of Camp Hill, Pa., has been playing the alto saxophone since she was 8 years old, performing in Macy’s Great American Marching Band in 2012 and the Tournament of Bands’ All-Star Band in 2011. Throughout high school, Schuster was a member of the Camp Hill Marching Band, Camp Hill Concert Band, Cumberland County Band, Camp Hill Holiday Cheer Ensemble and Camp Hill Jazz Band. She also participated in the Camp Hill Chamber Music Club for two years and in the Camp Hill Pit Orchestra for three, and received the John Philip Sousa Band Award her senior year.
“I think my favorite experience playing saxophone was the summer before my sophomore year of high school,” Schuster says. “I toured Austria, France, Switzerland and Germany with American Music Abroad. Not only did I get to travel the world, I got to perform for hundreds of people.”
Schuster is a history and music double-major with minors in gender studies and medieval and Renaissance studies. She received a Leadership Certificate last spring and continues to work on her honors degree. Having twice been elected class president for the Class of 2017, Schuster also was recently elected Student Government Association president for 2016-2017. She is on the Honors Program Student Council, a member of Sweet Peas, and works as an admissions ambassador, a resident advisor for first-year students and a history tutor for the Academic Resource Center.
