National Public Radio’s Lulu Miller will return to Sweet Briar College for a reading with Jack Hamilton, an assistant professor at the University of Virginia, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, in the Browsing Room in Mary Helen Cochran Library. The reading is sponsored by the English and creative writing department and is free and open to the public.
Lulu Miller
Miller is the co-host of NPR’s “Invisibilia,” a show about the invisible forces that shape human behavior. Her work has won accolades from the George Foster Peabody Awards, Third Coast and The Missouri Review. Before “Invisibilia,” Miller was a producer on “Radiolab” for five years. The proud owner of a canoe, Miller used to play rugby and study history at Swarthmore College. When she’s not making radio, she has the “hidden, secret, dirty hobby” of writing fiction stories.
Hamilton is an assistant professor of American studies and media studies at UVa. His first book, “Just Around Midnight: Rock and Roll and the Racial Imagination,” will be published by Harvard University Press this fall. He is also the pop critic for Slate magazine, where he writes about music, sports, film, TV, books and other areas of culture. His work has appeared in The Atlantic, on NPR and ESPN, in Transition, the L.A. Review of Books, Free Darko, The Classical, GlobalPost, Rolling Stone and other publications. He is currently beginning work on a cultural history of posthuman music.
