Samantha Cochran will present her Senior Dance Concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Feb. 19-20, in the dance studio theater at Babcock Fine Arts Center. The event is free and open to the public.
Cochran will earn her Bachelor of Fine Arts in May with a dance major and a music minor. Dance program Director Mark Magruder is expecting more of what he saw in her fall concert for her B.F.A. senior capstone. She is both a gifted dancer and one of the most accomplished student choreographers to come through the program in recent years, he said.
“Samantha’s not fixed on one style of dance,” Magruder says. “She does everything from a musical theater-type style to very serious, emotional work. Sometimes it’s very athletic. She does all the different genres of dance very, very well.”
The concert will feature solo, group and video dances, and make use of props — including an aerial hoop, or lyra.
“I’m expecting yet another great show and one definitely worth people’s while to come see,” Magruder said.
