College to celebrate annual Gospel Fest

Sweet Briar College will celebrate its annual Gospel Fest in honor of Black History Month from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21, in Memorial Chapel. The event is free and open to the public.

The concert will feature local gospel choirs and soloists, including Pastor Paul Kee of Fellowship Church of Christ, Derrick Thompson, Sadé Fountain ’15 and mother, Rhonda Fountain, Rita Kidd-Margreete, Pearlie Sandidge, Beatrice Booker and The Five Boys of Zion. There also will be poetry readings by Laverne Paige ’06 and Shaniqua (Nene) Jones ’16.

A Soul Food Dinner in Prothro immediately following the concert will round out festivities. Regular dinner prices apply: Guest rates are $9.50 for adults and $5.50 for children younger than 11; Sweet Briar faculty, staff and day student rates are $7.50 for adults and $4.40 for children younger than 11.
