Updated Nov. 16
As we mourn the victims of the terrorist attacks in Paris, we ask the Sweet Briar community to join together to express our solidarity with the French people and with all those impacted by Friday’s tragic events. Three observances are planned.
- We will hold a moment of silence at noon today in the quad near Memorial Chapel.
- A second moment of silence will be held at noon on Tuesday in the Prothro atrium.
- A candlelight vigil is also planned at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Chapel.
Sweet Briar College is deeply saddened to hear about the tragic events in Paris tonight. Our hearts go out to all the victims, their families and the city of Paris. We have been working directly with John Lambeth, director of JYF in Paris and Nice, and Giulia V.C. Witcome, director of JYS in Seville, to enact all safety measures. We are grateful that all JYF and JYS students are accounted for and safe.
The JYF and JYS offices are coordinating directly with students to communicate information as the situation evolves. We will continue to keep students and families of these students updated as we know more.
