Saving Sweet Briar leader to serve as athletics recruiting coordinator, assistant coach

Tracy Stuart ’93, a leader of the Saving Sweet Briar nonprofit that helped save Sweet Briar College from closure, will continue supporting her alma mater in a new role that was announced today by the College’s director of athletics, Teresa Boylan.

Stuart will serve as the athletics recruiting coordinator and assistant field hockey coach on a volunteer basis. An All-American athlete, Stuart was awarded many athletic honors on the field hockey and lacrosse teams during her years at Sweet Briar. She worked in the Sweet Briar Office of Admissions as a recruiter for two years following her graduation and later served as an English teacher and field hockey and lacrosse coach at the collegiate and high school levels. For the past several years, Stuart has been living on Martha’s Vineyard, where she works as a realtor.
“The positive energy we have here at Sweet Briar College is palpable, especially in the area of Vixen athletics,” Boylan said. “I have no doubt this momentum will continue with the addition of our own All-American field hockey and lacrosse alumna, Tracy Stuart. Tracy epitomizes the passion our alumnae have for Sweet Briar and I know this will translate into success, not only in her coaching duties, but also in her recruitment of like-minded student-athletes. Tracy’s offer to fill these important roles without compensation is just the latest example of the tremendous generosity she has shown to Sweet Briar.”
Stuart will begin her new duties on Sept. 1 and will be living on a temporary basis in Lynchburg.
“Having worked so hard with my fellow alumnae to save Sweet Briar College, I am excited to continue supporting my alma mater in this new volunteer role,” Stuart said. “My own experience at Sweet Briar was richer because of my involvement in athletics. As a former athlete, I know that many young women looking at colleges expect to see a robust athletic program, so I’m looking forward to not only strengthening Sweet Briar’s athletic program, but also helping to recruit a new generation of student-athletes.”
