Sweet Briar announced recently that campus safety will again be operated by the College, with Anthony Muchine as interim director. A search for a permanent director will begin shortly.

The department had temporarily been outsourced to G4S USA following campus safety director Dave Gardner’s departure in June.
Muchine says he brings a “positive-minded team player” approach to the job and looks forward to working closely with students, faculty, staff, campus visitors and the residents of the town of Amherst.
“It is my goal to provide the highest degree of service to our community each and every day, and I’m committed to keeping our campus a safe place to learn, live and work in,” he said. “The Sweet Briar College Department of Campus Safety is dedicated to continuing to provide a safe environment for all who reside, teach and endeavor here. I sincerely hope that each of you will take an active role in preserving the safety and security of our community.”
Muchine holds a B.S. in computer science from Lynchburg College and a diploma in police science from Stanford Carrier Institute. He has more than 18 years of experience in security, both as a sergeant and, more recently, as a supervisor with G4S.
