Sweet Briar announces new dean of student life

Former Associate Dean for Academic Services Kelly Kraft-Meyer has been named dean of student life and academic support, according to a statement released Monday.
The position, President Stone wrote in an email to the community, will “further advance our efforts to blend academic support and student life activities.”
The Office of Co-curricular Life was previously led by Cheryl Steele, who left the College in June.
Kraft-Meyer holds a B.S. in economics and management and an MBA from Russell Sage College in Troy, N.Y. She began her career at Sweet Briar College in 1997 as the director of residence life and housing and, after several years in co-curricular life, moved to academic advising in 2010.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to combine my experience in student life as well as academics in this new role, particularly at this historic point in Sweet Briar’s legacy,” she said.
Kraft-Meyer recently celebrated her 25th wedding anniversary with husband, Rich, who was Sweet Briar’s associate director of physical plant for 16 years. Their 14-year-old son Hunter will enter ninth grade this year.
